The history of the pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria will be incomplete without adequate emphasis on the contributions of Afrab-Chem Limited.
Afrab-Chem Limited is a respected leader in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry in Nigeria , which is also strongly committed to producing high quality pharmaceutical products to the satisfaction of its customers.
The company was originally established in 1968 under the name Afro–Arab Techni-Chemicals Limited by a Nigerian-Jordanian group of pharmacists, chemists and business entrepreneurs as pharmaceutical distributors.
In 1973, the company’s first manufacturing plant was established in the country to produce selected drugs under technical partnership with -
-Arab Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company, Amman , Jordan
-Zambon Group, Spa, Milan , Italy
-Dr. Andreu Laboratories, Barcelona , Spain , and
-OM Laboratories, Geneva , Switzerland.

In the beginning, the product range included analgesics and anti-inflammatory agents, anti-malaria drugs, anti-biotics, multivitamins, anti-rheumatics, anti-diabetics, anti-spasmodic, cough and cold mixtures.
Over the past four decades, Afrab-Chem has grown into a pharmaceutical conglomerate whose impact is felt across the nation.
Its current product lines which encompass solid and liquid dosage forms as well as external preparations have seen the emergence of close to 80 popular products some of which include –
Afrabvite (drops, syrups)
Panda Paracetamol (drops, syrups and tablets)
La-Tessen (drops, syrups and tablets)
Detonic (blood tonic for the family)

At every stage of its expansion, the company kept faith with the commitment to ensure effective implementation of the requirements of NIS ISO 9001: 2000 standard and the continual improvement of its Quality Management System.

The company’s vision, which is - To be the foremost provider of essential pharmaceuticals and health care products – tends to keep it on its toes, not feeling satisfied with the feats already achieved.
To meet the challenges of the new millennium, Afrab-Chem has embarked on plant expansion and improvement programme.
Presently, the main factory and the laboratories are being modernized to comply with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) as well as to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO).

A second ultra-modern factory, with the specifications approved by the WHO is currently under construction in Lagos.
Today, Afrab-Chem serves medical professionals and patients in various communities by providing dependable high quality pharmaceuticals. It also manufactures various products on contract for institutions, governments, multinational organizations and foreign agencies.

The strategic location of Afrab-Chem in Nigeria affords the company easy access to all the vital export markets in Africa.
This also fuels the company’s resolve to be the hub of the pharmaceutical industry in West Africa, and at the same time compete favourably in the global export market.

Located in exceptionally neat environment, the company has continued to operate at the highest standard of ethics and integrity in both business and professional conduct, in recognition of the customers' rights to high quality products.
Afrab-Chem’s consistent strive to remain at the top of the best pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria has endeared it to the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC.
In addition to NAFDAC certification, all the locally manufactured products have the necessary NAFDAC registration Numbers.

Afrab-Chem Ltd has a sister company known as JOSWE Medical (Jordan Sweden Medical and Sterilization Co.) which is based in Jordan and manufactures highly standardised Pharmaceutical products for international markets. JOSWE’s products range include; Anti-hypertensives, Anti-diabetics, Anti-psychotics among others.

Under the leadership of Mr. Malik Shahin, ably assisted by a fine team of Nigerian professionals, Afrab Chem Ltd has successfully installed necessary machinery and has started the manufacturing of tablets in compliance to WHO standards while awaiting the final WHO certification, a process under review.

The company’s commitment to its social responsibility is unique.
Apart from actively supporting several types of school sports, community ventures and individual causes such as scholarships and supporting families, Afrab Chem Ltd played a vanguard role in the success of the 2012 National Sports Festival hosted by Lagos State, better known as EKO 2012.
In appreciation of the company’s contribution, the former Governor Babatunde Fashola personally endorsed a “Special Thank You” note to the company. That is an eloquent statement of the vision and mission of Afrab-Chem Limited....
